Performance dates and times:
Fridays @6pm and Saturdays @ 1:30pm and 3:30pm
May 11th-May 26th
at Free Street Theater at Pulaski Park
Based on histories of real-life women of color (both famous and family) and non-Eurocentric fairytales, EPIC TALES invites young people to help envision the world they want to see. The play, which premiered in Chicago in 2016, follows the adventures of young girls of color who are warriors, explorers, and friends. Broaching topics of gentrification, colonialism, and the power of one's ancestry, our fierce young heroes are challenged to reclaim power that was stolen from them and their people. Through authentic audience participation, audiences are invited to assist the heroes in reaching their goals, activating the forces of community support and action, while understanding themselves as part of the journey. EPIC TALES takes audiences through a narrative in which young people of color can identify themselves and where all of us can envision women of color as tenacious leaders.
