Summer Intensive Theater Workshops 2008

Are you ready to commit to being an Artist?

Free Street summer workshops are the first step in a two-year training program. In the summer teens will work with directors to learn the basic philosophy and practice of creating theater at Free Street. The Summer is an intensive six-week process in which participants will develop skills and create performances. Ensembles will be creating outdoor site specific performance that will tour to various locations in the city. People who are serious about gaining skills as an artists should realize that developing strong creative habits in body and mind take time to deeply experience and absorb. This is why we encourage committed young artists to study with us for two years. Many of our ensemble members stay for many years.

You do not need to have any prior experience to be in our summer workshops. You do need to be passionately interested in learning about theater and creative writing.

If you want to do this, sign up at After School Matters. Click on "Apply to a community program near you". Then use Option 2 and enter the keyword "Free Street". Also, call us at (773) 772-7248 to set up and interview/audition. If you are unsure what to do for an audition just ask us and we will help you figure it out.

Summer ensembles meet at Free Street in Pulaski Park 1419 W. Blackhawk near Ashland and Division. It is close to the blue line Division stop. Teens come from all over the city to participate in summer ensembles. The summer workshops meet from June 30th - August 7th on Mondays thru Thursdays from 9:30 - 3:00.

Free Street is arts training as good as it gets. Our partners include: DePaul University, Stella Adler Acting Studio NYC, Columbia College, Metropolis Theater Berlin Germany, Teatr Brama Poland.
